Throughout this school year the elementary grades have been
focusing on adopting the Primary Years Program (PYP) of the
International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). We continue to pursue
the goal of becoming an IB school and have hired a PYP coordinator for
next school year to advance us towards the goal of becoming authorized
by the IBO. This is an exciting opportunity for our students and our
school as well as the school community!
The aim of the IBO program is to develop “internationally minded
students who recognize their common humanity and shared guardianship
of the planet and help to create a better and more peaceful world.
As we engage in this process, we want to keep parents informed of some
of the changes that you may see around our school or hear about from
your child(ren).
With this in mind, the IBO has defined what they believe are the 10
most important attributes of an international person which is called
the "Learner Profil". These attributes provide teachers with
guiding beliefs for what we want students to learn and understand.
These attributes include being inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers,
communicators, risk takers, principled, caring, open-minded,
well-balanced, and reflective. In short, these attributes make up what
we call "The Learner Profile."
