Northbridge International School Cambodia
supports a best practice, developmental approach to learning.
The grade 2 through grade 6 academic curriculum is inquiry based,
deriving its framework of approach from the IB/PYP program, and
developmentally more challenging. Students are challenged with
cross-disciplined instruction. Although we are not yet an IB/PYP
World School, we are moving in that direction. We currently hold
candidacy status and look forward to becoming and IB/PYP World School
in the near future.
In Elementary School, the study of both language arts and mathematics
has traditionally been organized around blocks times of study.
This means that during a designated period each day - usually early
mornings - all students in the Elementary School study language arts;
at another designated period later on, students study mathematics.
However, with the introduction of the IB/PYP approach to learning,
language arts and mathematics are becoming more integrated throughout
the day.
Our youngest students come to school with a wide variety of experiences, developmental and cultural differences.
At Northbridge International School Cambodia, our curriculum and instruction reflect and celebrate these differences.
We strive to give every child the opportunity to achieve their full potential through the delivery of a
rich and diverse, well-articulated and standards based elementary program. Our educational approach is designed to promote student learning and
motivation through our student-centered instruction. Each learner sits at the
center of their own education, providing for more focused and intensive
instruction and helping each student develop their individual skills and
abilities to the highest degree possible. In our elementary school student
will be continually involved in group work, assemblies and project / field
trip experiences.
The aim of the NISC elementary school is to give each child a firm
foundation in core subjects and the confidence to respond enthusiastically
and positively to new experiences and ideas. While core curriculum objectives
are clearly defined, classroom procedures are sufficiently flexible to allow individual
attention, for teaching in small groups and to make adjustments in programs.
The NISC elementary school curriculum is based on, but not limited to
the IB/PYP model. The elementary grades emphasize reading and language
arts skills, mathematics, and science and social studies
(including Khmer studies). In addition, students receive French
or Khmer or ESL instruction, physical education, swimming, music, art,
computers and library as a part of a comprehensive elementary school
program.
