NISC's Sixth Grade program is also
known as Transitional Grade Six. It is a program designed to
successfully transition elementary students into the middle school.
Grade 6 students have one homeroom teacher and specials classes
similar to other elementary grades. Yet, it is unique because students
are guided through the process of joining the middle school. This
includes a transition into letter grades and report cards, the use of
lockers, and the following of the block schedule. [SEE below for block
schedule details]
The transition includes participation in elementary assemblies and
events at the beginning of the school year and then participation in
middle school assemblies and events during the second semester.
Students in 6th Grade experience lunchtime, sports, dances, and other
events with grade 7 and 8 students. This program is designed to elicit
success for all 6th graders as they shift from elementary school to
middle school.
