The NISC Middle School is comprised of the 7th and 8th grades and builds on the work of the 6th grade transitional program to support students’ development into independent learners. The middle school curriculum is organized around the four core academic disciplines of Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. NISC middle school teachers have participated in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) introductory training and planning of inter-disciplinary units of study which allow students to construct meaning and make connections to other areas of study. In addition, middle school students take classes in additional languages, physical education and swimming, information and computer technology, music, and visual arts. Students needing to develop their English language proficiency are enrolled in English as Another Language (EAL) classes replacing their additional language class.

NISC middle school students are supported by an experienced faculty to become intellectual risk-takers, think critically, apply their creativity, and grow as individuals. At the same time, students are challenged by increasing levels of academic rigor and greater expectations for performance in a developmentally appropriate way. A special emphasis is placed on learning organizational skills and work habits that will support them as they continue their education. At the end of their 8th grade year, NISC students are well prepared for the demands of high school, and beyond. NISC middle school students have the opportunity to participate in many extracurricular activities. NISC athletic teams travel to, and compete in MRISA sporting exchanges throughout the year as well as participating in competition against other schools in Phnom Penh. NISC students also participate in the annual MRISA Cultural Exchange. NISC offers a high-quality After School Activities program with activities programmed for students of all ages.
