The ESL Bridge Program at NISC is designed to develop the English skills for
non-English speaking students in Grades 2-8. Our goal is to help students develop
sufficiently functional English skills in order to transition into our main
educational program.
The main features of the Bridge Program include: a focus on intensive academic
and English language skills development; small group instruction allowing more
individual attention from teachers and flexibility to meet the needs of each
student; where appropriate, the Bridge curriculum is aligned with the grade-level
core curriculum; an integrated approach to the teaching of core subjects.
Upon exiting the Bridge Program, students will have strengthened
both their academic skills and their English language skills,
and will be ready to enter the mainstream classrooms where they
will continue to receive ESL support through the ESL Program.
