All students from Nursery School to Grade 8 take
music as a compulsory subject with a music specialist teacher.
Students in Grades 9-12 are required to take at least one class by
the end of high school. The school has two music specialists, one
for all elementary students and one for upper school students. In
the
elementary music program instruction
is based on both Kodaly and Orff music teaching methods. Students in
grades 4, 5 and 6 learn to play the recorder. Upper school music
classes include instruction on guitar as well as computer music
programs. This year NISC is
introducing a band program with trumpets, trombones, saxophones, and
some other instruments.
Private music lessons are also
offered. Instruments include flute, clarinet, piano, guitar and
drums.
