Sports Update (Posted October 29, 2008) Good Luck at MRISA Saigon,
Oct 30 - Nov 1 - HS Boys Volleyball!
Saturday was an action packed sports day for all NISC athletes. There
were tournaments at Logos, ISPP, and NISC for boys and girls basketball
and volleyball teams.
Middle School Boys Basketball
The middle school boys had a challenging day on Saturday. They played
three games against some difficult competition and unfortunately, the
team was unable to win a match. However, Coach Austin and Coach Davis
feel very confident about the teams performance. The boys were able to
move the ball well and create lots of scoring chances; they just had
difficulty finishing off a good opportunity. Despite losing three games,
the coaches believe this talented team will be a strong contender for a
first place finish at MRISA. Well done boys!!

Middle School Girls Basketball
On Saturday October 18th the Girls Middle School Basketball Team
ventured to Logos for a round-robin competition. We had two teams A and
B with all 16 girls participating.
Our B-Team went first losing 32 11 against ISPP. We had two girls from
Hope school who could not field a team. Both Erin and Janette from Hope
were valuable players all day. Erin was outstanding scoring 26 points in
3 games. The B- Team lost to Logos 16 to 36 and 18 to 52 against our
A-Team. Our A-Team had a very successful day winning all three matches.
Scores:
NISC A 21 / Logos 13 NISC A 21 / ISPP 11 NISC A 52 / NISC B
18
Overall, there was outstanding play by all girls with special mention to
Thipdey who scored 32 points including four three-pointers. Nika our
captain scored 16 points and held the side together. Haruna was very
aggressive on the ball and cleaned up her opposition on many occasions.
Things are looking good for the MRISA competition with the teams getting
better all the time. The B-Team is showing excellent development and the
A-Team is sticking to the game plan and finishing off play beautifully.
Good luck Girls!
High School Boys Volleyball
The high school boys volleyball team played some of their best games of
the season on Saturday. They were able to control the ball and set up a
lot of aggressive attacks which led to a win against ISPP. In their
second match against Logos the team won the first set and lost the next
two. Against Logos in the Championship match the Nagas played their best
game of the season but were unable to defeat Logos. This team is ready
for the MRISA tournament at the end of this month.
The girls volleyball team had a strong showing as well on Saturday.
According to some of their players they played the best games of their
season. In the round robin portion of the tournament the girls defeated
ISPP but then lost to Logos. In the end it was a three-way tie which
resulted in a point differential tie-breaker process. Unfortunately, the
NAGAs were ended up finishing third and were did not get a chance to
play in the championship match.
What is MRISA?
The Mekong River
International Schools Association (MRISA) is our regional sports and
activities league, of which NISC is a charter member. The organization
is made up presently of eight international schools: NISC,
International School of Phnom Penh, Vientiane International School,
International School Ho Chi Minh City, Saigon South International
School, Hanoi International School, United Nations International School
and International School Eastern Seaboard.
Friendly sports
competitions and non-sports events are scheduled annually to take place
within the MRISA region. The sports exchanges are broken into two
divisions: Students participating in junior exchanges (middle school)
must be 14 years of age or younger on the first day of the event;
students participating in senior exchanges (high school) must be 18
years or younger on the first day of the event.
